Dogs have played an important role in our history since the earliest days. We are all aware that dogs are man’s best friend. From the time they were domesticated back to about 4000 years ago, dogs helped man hunt, herd animals, and do other necessary tasks for survival. Throughout their history, dogs have been crucial to mankind’s existence and have helped improve people’s lives. Below are some other interesting facts about dogs.

The domestic dog is a highly domesticated form of wild wolf. The first dog evolved from an extinct, wolf, with its closest living relative the red wolf, over 15,000 years ago. The domestic dog became the first animal to be domestic by early hunter-gatherers over 15,000 years ago, before the emergence of agriculture.

The most common types of dogs across the world are the grey wolf and the golden retriever. Grey wolves were most likely introduced into the gene pool by humans, through interbreeding with indigenous populations. Today, there are more than twenty breeds of wolves in North America alone. Golden retrievers and Dobermans are the most common breeds among American dogs, while there are still few domestic dogs that are closely related to the grey wolf. Among the breeds that are closely related to the gray wolf, the U.S. grey wolves are the only species to lead a fully domesticated life, aside from the dachshund, which is still a largely wild dog.

One group of dogs that were not domestic before the arrival of humans are the canids. Crows, Foxes, Hyenas, Jackals, and Carrack dogs are the only canids that have lived on their own since humans started bringing domesticated animals into the world. These groups of cards are widely believed to have originated from Africa and Asia, and they are now widespread all over the world. Most of these canids are of a desert variety, and they have adapted to life in the hot, dry environments of the arid regions of the planet.

Another group of dogs that have become closely associated with man are the aroma dogs. They are basically smell dogs, as their very existence demonstrates. These are the dogs that, given the opportunity, will track down their master and emit a wafting aroma to attract her attention. Though these dogs have a close relationship with humans, it does not seem to be reciprocated and they are usually solitary hunters.

If there is one animal that humans seem to have a great connection with, it is dogs. The animal kingdom is filled with a variety of mammals, but none are as universally beloved or as beloved to humans as dogs. As we all know, dogs are man’s best friend. Therefore, it is important for you to learn how to recognize the basic characteristics of a good breed of dog, because that will serve as your best friend in times of need and in guarding your home.
